Perth Traffic Training
The Basic Worksite Traffic Management Refresher course is a Main Roads WA requirement for those looking to renew their accreditation in Western Australia. This course provides students with all the current rules and regulations whilst giving them the opportunity to brush up on their practical skills.
The BWTM Refresher is a one (1) day course, which is delivered face to face with an emphasis on practical training and assessment.
A PERSON CANNOT IMPLEMENT TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT ONCE THEIR ACCREDITATION HAS EXPIRED. Main Roads WA gives a person three months following the expiry of their accreditation to sit a one day Refresher after which time they must re-sit the full course

MANDATORY
MRWA Pre-Requisites
Pre-Requisites
ALL LEARNERS WILL BE REQUIRED TO PROVIDE PHOTOGRAPHIC IDENTIFICATION UPON ARRIVING FOR THEIR COURSE.
Participants will need to meet the following:

Hold the WorkSafe Construction Induction (White card)/ Safety Awareness Training (Blue card) OR equivalent

Provide a Unique Student Identifier (USI) – Create or find your USI here

Entrants require a good level of physical fitness and health as training will involve:
-
Lifting/moving signs and devices (approximately 6-8kgs each)
-
Setting up/packing down sites
-
Standing for long periods
Participant require a basic level of language, literacy and numeracy skills to enable them to meet the requirements of the course, at a minimum the ability to:
-
Comply with written and verbal reporting requirements and procedures
-
Communicate clearly and concisely with others. Clearly communicate on a hand held radio.

Identify and select appropriate traffic guidance scheme and implement traffic management
plans.

THE BELOW DOCUMENTATION MUST BE SUBMITTED BEFORE ENROLMENT CAN BE CONFIRMED

Statement of Attainment for Basic Worksite Traffic Management including the following units (N/A if previous student of Perth Traffic Training)
- RIICOM201E Communicate in the workplace
- RIIWHS302E Implement a traffic management plan accreditation

**If you are unable to provide the above Statements of Attainment, you must then provide an extract from your USI account verifying that you have completed these units.**

Basic Worksite Traffic Management Main Roads Certificate of Accreditation (N/A if previous student of Perth Traffic Training)

A completed SWMS or JSA used on a worksite you have signed
-
List a minimum of three (3) worksites where you have undertaken traffic management duties in the previous 12 months (e.g. setting up signs/devices, controlling traffic, pedestrian management, etc.)
IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO PROVIDE THE ABOVE DOCUMENTATION THEN YOU ARE REQUIRED TO RESIT THE FULL COURSE
Course Content
At the completion of the BWTM course you will have gained an understanding of the relevant Australian, State and Territory traffic management legislation and be able to demonstrate the required level of skills and knowledge in relation to;

Changes to the Main Roads WA Traffic Management for Works on Roads Code of Practice
-
Traffic management plans, signs and devices
-
Site and equipment safety requirements
-
Hazard identification, job safety analysis and safe work method statements
-
Basic signalling and radio operations
Assessment Method
Knowledge based questionnaires and practical demonstration.
Competencies
Upon successful completion, all participants will receive:
1. Nationally recognised Statement of Attainment issued by Star Training & Assessing (RTO 21830) for the following units:

Perth Traffic Training on behalf of Star Training & Assessing is a Main Roads WA approved training provider therefore, upon successful completion and meeting all the required Main Roads WA pre-requisites, participants will also receive a Main Roads WA Basic Worksite Traffic Management (BWTM) Accreditation, valid for 3 years from date of issue.

3. MRWA Traffic Management ID Card with photo, valid for three years from date of issue.

Public Access Accreditation Listing

All participants who successfully complete the course will have the below information added to the Main Roads accredited persons database, for viewing by the general public or the purpose of Accreditation verification.
Training Day
Dress Code
Students are required to wear appropriate clothing for the practical component of the course including:
-
hi- visibility long sleeved shirt (If you do not have hi-vis, we have vests that you can borrow)
-
long pants
-
safety boots (steel cap)

Please dress to the weather conditions such as a hat and sunscreen for warm, sunny weather and wet weather attire for wet days.

Refreshments
Tea & coffee is provided. There are some nearby food outlets to purchase your lunch and kitchen facilities if you require, should you bring your own.

Parking & Transportation
Free Parking is available, however please adhere to signage as some areas have time limitations. There is a bus stop right out front of the venue.
Reaccreditation
Re-accreditation of all traffic management accreditation holders is required every three (3) years. It is a requirement that ‘refresher training’ is undertaken, within three months of expiry to gain re-accreditation with Main Roads WA. Failure to sit the Refresher training by the end of the three months will require the full course to be taken again.

Please note that once your card expires you cannot implement traffic management on Western Australian roads.

Subsidies
Construction Training Fund (CTF) Subsidy is applicable to this course, for eligible participants only. See our Subsidy Page for further info regarding eligibility.
“The Construction Training Fund provides funding support for training of eligible workers in the construction industry. We acknowledge the support of the Construction Training Fund in reducing the costs of training for eligible workers.”
No other government training entitlements and subsidy arrangements are currently available for this course.

All courses require upfront payment, unless you have an approved account with Perth Traffic Training.

Once your booking request has been received, we will review your enrolment to ensure all pre-requisites have been met. Upon approval by our admissions team your spot in the course will be confirmed via email.
