This Main Roads WA Re-Accreditation Course provides participants with the theory and practical skills required to monitor the effectiveness of traffic guidance schemes including adding and/or removing signs and devices within the scope and objectives of the Traffic Management Plan.  

 

This course is aimed at personnel in a Supervisory role, who are required to carry out risk management processes.


The WTM is a one (1) day course, which is delivered face to face. Some post course work may be required.

Pre-Requisites

ALL LEARNERS WILL BE REQUIRED TO PROVIDE PHOTOGRAPHIC IDENTIFICATION UPON ARRIVING FOR THEIR COURSE.


Participants will need to meet the following:

  • Hold the WorkSafe Construction Safety Awareness Card (White or Blue card)

  • Provide a Unique Student Identifier (USI) – Create or find your USI Here

  • Provide evidence of current / previous valid Australian Driver’s Licence - minimum probationary.

Entrants will need to have good level of physical fitness and health as training will involve:

  • Lifting/moving signs and devices (approximately 6-8kgs each)

  • Setting up/packing down sites 

  • Standing for period of up to 2 hours

 

Participants will need a level of language, literacy and numeracy skills to enable them to meet the requirements of the course, at a minimum the ability to:

  • Comply with written and verbal reporting requirements and procedures

  • Communicate clearly and concisely with others to receive and clarify work instructions

  • Identify and select appropriate traffic guidance scheme and implement traffic management plans

  • Apply legislative requirements

  • Describe the effects of travel speed and vehicle mass on stopping distances

  • Clearly communicate on a hand held radio

Been actively engaged in the traffic management industry in the last 12 months
 

Provide the following :

  • BWTM Main Roads WA Certificate of Accreditation (N/A if previous student of Perth Traffic Training)

  • WTM Main Roads WA Certificate of Accreditation (N/A if previous student of Perth Traffic Training)

  • Statements of Attainment (minimum) for BWTM: (N/A if previous student of Perth Traffic Training)

        RIIWHS201E Work safely and follow WHS policies and work procedures.

        RIICOM201E Communicate in the workplace.

        RIIWHS302E Implement a traffic management plan accreditation

 

  • Statements of Attainment (minimum) for WTM: (N/A if previous student of Perth Traffic Training) 

        RIIRIS402E – Carry out risk management process (or equivalent)

**NOTE: If you are unable to provide the above Statements of Attainment, you must then provide an extract from your USI account verifying that you have completed these units.

​

List a minimum of three worksites where you have undertaken traffic management duties in the previous 12 months (e.g. setting up signs/devices, controlling traffic, pedestrian management, etc.)

​

Within the last 12 months provide the following:

  • Traffic management plan with multiple TGS and speed reductions that was implemented that you amended. The submission should include risk assessment and daily diary; and

​

  • A copy of an onsite inspection of a roadwork or event traffic management site you have completed.

OR

​

Where your primary role is reviewing, recommending and/or authorising Traffic Management Plans, provide:

  • Traffic Management Plan you have reviewed or approved with your review comments, for assessment.

Course Content

At the completion of the WTM course you will have a refreshed understanding of the relevant Australian, State and Territory traffic management legislation, as well as  the theory and practical skills required to review TMPs prepared by a person holding an AWTM accreditation.

Monitoring the effectiveness of, and on-site adjustments to, traffic guidance schemes in accordance with the scope and objectives of the Traffic Management Plan. This includes adjusting, adding and/or removing signs and devices where the intent/objectives of the TMP and operation of the road network are not adversely impacted.

Changes to the TMP/TGS shall not involve adding lane or road closures, speed limit changes, or adding any additional regulatory signs that have not been approved (note: WTMs may add repeater signs). - MRWA COP

Assessment Method

Knowledge based questionnaires, practical demonstration and post course assessments.

Competencies

Upon successful completion, all participants will receive:

1. Nationally recognised Statement of Attainment issued by Star Training & Assessing (RTO 21830) for the following units:

Perth Traffic Training on behalf of Star Training & Assessing is a Main Roads WA approved training provider therefore, upon successful completion and meeting all the required Main Roads WA pre-requisites, participants will also receive a Main Roads WA Worksite Traffic Management (WTM)  Accreditation, valid for 3 years from date of issue.

3. MRWA Traffic Management ID Card with photo, valid for three years from date of issue.

Public Access Accreditation Listing

​

All participants who successfully complete the course will have the below information added to a registry on the Main Roads website, for viewing by the general public or the purpose of Accreditation verification.

The information listed will include:

  • Graduate’s Name

  • Level of Accreditation

  • Accreditation reference number

  • Date of Accreditation and the Expiry date

  • Copy of Austroads Guide to Temporary Traffic Management PART 3 (Static Worksites)  

  • A copy of an up to date Main Roads WA Traffic Management for works on roads Code of Practice

 

Dress Code

Majority of this course is classroom based and therefore casual, comfortable clothing is acceptable. The trainer will advise if students are required to wear appropriate clothing for any site visits or practical components of the course.

This includes:

  • hi- visibility long sleeved shirt (If you do not have hi-vis, we have vests that you can borrow)

  • long pants 

  • safety boots

Please dress to the weather conditions such as a hat and sunscreen for warm, sunny weather and wet weather attire for wet days.

​

Catering

Catering will be provided for this courses including tea & coffee refreshments and lunch. Please let us know if you have specific dietary requirements.

There are some nearby food outlets if you wish to purchase your lunch and kitchen facilities if you require, should you bring your own.

Parking & Transportation

Free Parking is available, however please adhere to signage as some areas have time limitations. Our training venue is located near Gosnells Train Station. There is a bus stop right out front of the venue.

Reaccreditation

Re-accreditation of all traffic management accreditation holders is required every three (3) years.  It is a requirement that ‘refresher training’ is undertaken, within three months of expiry to gain re-accreditation with Main Roads WA. Failure to sit the Refresher training by the end of the three months will require the full course to be taken again.

Please note that once your card expires you cannot implement traffic management on Western Australian roads.

Subsidies

Construction Training Fund (CTF) Subsidy is applicable to this course, for eligible participants only, however due to post course assessment requirements ALL claims (both individuals and employers) must be made directly to CTF at the successful completion of the course.

No other government training entitlements and subsidy arrangements are currently available for this course.
